Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog ๐“…ช

Here, you can find a brief introduction to me and my goals for this blog. As always, if you have any questions or would like to engage with my content in any way, I encourage communication, comments, and conversations. :)

Me
  • I am currently an undergraduate student formally studying social work (along with sociology and critical disability studies). I love school, I love learning. I plan to pursue my master's degree in 2027.
  • I LOVE READING! Reading is my favorite hobby, so prepare to see many posts regarding books, literature, and collecting on my blog! My favorite genres include literary fiction, translated fiction, historical, dystopian, political/social justice nonfiction, and memoir. My favorite topics to read typically involve slice-of-life, grief, activism, existentialism, humanism, and radical acceptance. I love translator notes and linguistics. I love reading broadly.
    • Favorite fiction books at the time of writing: Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, The God of Endings by Jacqueline Holland, The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica (translated by Sarah Moses from Spanish), The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty, Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez, Children of the New World by Alexander Weinstein
    • Favorite nonfiction books at the time of writing: All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks, Solidarity with Children: An Essay Against Adult Supremacy by Madeline Lane-McKinley, The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer
    • Authors of interest at the time of writing: Charlotte McConaghy, bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Simone de Beauvoir, Andrea Dworkin, Sophie Lewis, Jhumpa Lahiri, Arundhati Roy, Zadie Smith, Isabel Allende, Yiyun Li, R. F. Kuang, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Angela Y. Davis, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Sara Noviฤ‡, and more!
  • I am forming my research interests and professional perspectives, and I plan to use this blog to categorize and explore different areas of research I may want to engage in. Much of this is inspired by the literature and research I tend to read and may post about as well. I expect that my research topics will center children's liberation, disability justice, immigration justice, global justice, critical theory, anti-war, anti-capitalism, and theories of love.
  • I love music, and I am trying to branch out into different forms of media such as films, plays, and musicals. I plan to use my blog as a casual-critical review space!
    • Favorite music artists at the time of writing: Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Remi Wolf, The 1975, Kendrick Lamar (honorable mentions: Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Post Malone, PnB Rock)
    • Favorite movies at the time of writing: The Iron Claw, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Darjeeling Limited, Fences, Oppenheimer, Wicked & Wicked: For Good
My Blog
  • My blog, saghanistone, is named after Charlotte McConaghy's novel Migrations. In this dystopian novel, the main character Franny Stone tracks the last migration of the artic tern on a boat named The Saghani: hence, saghanistone. Saghani is also an Inuit word for raven. Migrations is my favorite book of all-time, and I currently have two bird tattoos in its honor!
    • The current profile picture for my blog at the time of writing is from the cover of Robin Wall Kimmerer's essay The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World. I do love birds :)
  • My plan for this blog is to utilize the tags feature to organize various posts, ranging from: media reviews (mostly books, but occasionally music and film), research interests and projects, and personal posts. I want to remain experimental and open, and I would like to explore creative writing and poetry as well.

Thank you for reading! Enjoy, engage :)
